Chicago ScriptWorks Stages Promising Screenwriter’s Original Screenplay

CHICAGO—Chicago ScriptWorks (CSW) will present a staged reading at the Chicago Cultural Center, February 22, 2006, of the original screenplay The Newlywed Game, written by Cheryl Winkelmann. The story is about a young couple whose marriage disintegrates on national television after an appearance on “The Newlywed Game” that ranks them as the worst couple in the show’s history.

Winkelmann, whose writing career began after producing two award-winning sociology papers, placed as a semi-finalist in the 2002 Writesafe competition for her screenplay-short, The List, and in the 2001 Pilot Quest Competition for a TV pilot she penned. An employee in the sales department of the Daily Herald, Winkelmann has scripted a motivational film for the sales force and by request has contributed articles to their special sections. 

“Working with Chicago ScriptWorks has been extremely motivating and everyone, from the producers to the cast are so professional. My script is in a much better place already, and it (Chicago ScriptWorks) has given me the confidence and impetus to polish my scripts and start looking for representation again,” said Winkelmann, who recently lost her literary manager when the agency disbanded.

The Newlywed Game will be presented by professional actors on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, 7:00 p.m., Chicago Cultural Center Studio Theater, 77 E. Randolph St, Chicago, Illinois.
